What do you know of their mechanics?: Mechanics-wise, Proteans can collapse into a blob-form, which gives them the ability to ventcrawl, they can consume sheets of metal to store/use for size alteration and self-repairs. They also have the ability to alter their appearance at will, selecting from different species as well as color for limbs/hair/tails/etc.
What do you know of their lore?: Basically, Proteans are synthetics composed of millions and millions of tiny robots working together to form one being! They're a pretty rare sight most places, and not a whole lot is known about them.
What idea did you have for your character?: Idea ported from my Protean on another server: Basically, a crewmember that started off as long-lost technology on a partially destroyed vessel of alien origin discovered by the station's Exploration crew. Nicknamed 'Gyro,' it initially was found in a sealed container, carrying the appearance of liquid metal, though it gradually developed its own humanoid shape after spending time around the explorers. After several lengthy discussions with the powers-that-be, it was determined that because it would be too dangerous to simply release this bit of high-risk technology into the public, it would be offered a position working on the station, where it could be observed more closely. (Ultimately, Gyro's a bit of an awkward, curious synth, learning about life aboard a space station with his new coworkers!)
